InvisalignInvisalign is a great way to straighten your smile and correct your orthodontic issues. However, understanding how this treatment works and how it can benefit you helps ensure that you make the best decision in regards to your orthodontic treatment options. Find out more about Invisalign and how it works with Dr. Joseph Reed at Arlington Dental in Arlington, TX.

What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment which uses a significantly different approach to the popular traditional orthodontic methods like metal braces. Invisalign uses clear aligner trays made of plastic, customized by Invisalign’s dental laboratories to ensure a perfect, almost invisible fit. The trays apply gentle pressure to the teeth in certain areas, slowly moving them into their new positions over the course of treatment.

Do I need Invisalign?
Invisalign treats the sane orthodontic issues as traditional braces, which often include:

  • overbite
  • underbite
  • crossbite
  • open bite
  • misaligned teeth
  • uneven teeth

Dentists usually recommend Invisalign for patients age 12 and older. Younger patients’ mouths are still growing and developing, meaning they may need to wait to begin orthodontic treatment.

How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign comes in a series of trays. The patient wears the trays one after another until the end of their treatment. Each tray is slightly different from the last and, as they work, the teeth become straighter and straighter until, finally, they reach their final positions. During treatment, patients regularly see their dentist to ensure their treatment is going according to plan.

Invisalign Treatments in Arlington, TX
Invisalign requires a high level of commitment to your oral care routine. Slacking on your daily routine can cause issues like teeth decay or gum disease, two common dental issues which can hinder your treatment and lengthen treatment times. Simply remove your Invisalign trays to brush twice a day and floss at least once. You will see your orthodontist for routine checkups about every six weeks.

Would you rather not call attention to the fact that you're improving your smile? Invisalign offers a much more discreet option than metal invisalignbraces. Arlington, TX, dentist Dr. Joseph Reed of Arlington Dental explains several benefits of Invisalign.

Same results, different method

All brace systems rely on pressure to realign the teeth. Traditional braces use wires threaded through brackets, while aligner trays perform the same function in the Invisalign system. Your removable aligner trays are molded to fit your upper and lower teeth and provide constant, gentle pressure needed to straighten them or correct bite or other orthodontic issues.

Invisalign is an excellent choice if you have crooked teeth or gaps in your smile or an underbite, overbite, crossbite or open bite. Most people who need braces can take advantage of Invisalign. If you have severe or complicated orthodontic issues, traditional braces may be needed.

Invisalign aligner trays won't change your appearance, unlike metal or ceramic braces. The trays are made of clear plastic designed to make them practically invisible.

A practically pain-free option

There are no adjustments needed with Invisalign. Each set of aligner trays is designed to perform a different straightening function. At the end of two weeks. you'll simply swap one set of trays for another.

You may experience a little irritation when you first begin wearing your trays. Luckily, the irritation quickly fades as your mouth adjusts to the presence of the trays. If it continues, we can make a few adjustments in our Arlington office. You may also notice a little pressure when you wear the trays, although most people don't find the sensation painful.

No food restrictions

Want to eat popcorn, enjoy an ear of corn or chomp on a raw carrot? You can do all of these things when you wear Invisalign aligner trays. Although all of those foods are off-limits to traditional brace wearers, you won't face the same food restrictions. Every time you eat, you'll remove your aligners, which will allow you to eat anything you want. Although you can drink water while wearing your aligners, it's best to remove them when consuming other drinks, particularly those that may stain the clear plastic.

Straighten your smile discreetly with Invisalign. Call Arlington, TX, dentist Dr. Joseph Reed of Arlington Dental at (817) 303-5700 to schedule your appointment.

The need for some form of orthodontic treatment is very common in children and teenagers. But according to a report in The Wall Street invisalignJournal, the number of adults getting orthodontic treatment well past puberty and the adolescent years has risen by as much as 40 percent since the mid-90s. While it is never too late to undergo necessary orthodontic and dental treatment, bite and alignment problems (also known as malocclusions) are generally easier to treat in childhood, while the teeth and dental structures are still developing.

Adults who get braces often have to wear them for longer periods, ranging from 18 months to three years, which can potentially deter adults from getting the orthodontic treatment they need. Invisalign clear aligner trays offer an alternative to traditional metallic braces. Dr. Joseph Reed, a general and cosmetic dentist in Arlington, TX, recommends Invisalign for adults and older teenagers looking for a discreet and non-invasive option to get straighter teeth.

The Invisalign system is very straightforward and simple to use. After a comprehensive dental exam and evaluation, a set of clear aligner trays are custom designed for each person. Each tray is worn for approximately two weeks. In addition to being practically "invisible," Invisalign trays offer many advantages over traditional braces, including:

  • Can be removed for up to two hours each day for eating, brushing, and flossing
  • Are generally worn for 15 months, cutting down treatment time from traditional braces
  • Non-invasive
  • Do not disrupt nutrition, oral hygiene and lifestyle habits
  • Affordable

Most adults and older teenagers are generally eligible for orthodontic treatment with Invisalign.

For many people in need of orthodontic treatment to straighten crooked, uneven teeth, the thought of sacrificing a year and a half to metallic braces can be unthinkable, especially in adulthood. Both cosmetic and oral hygiene concerns (wire trapped spinach anyone?) often make people believe they must settle for an unattractive smile.Invisalign

Invisalign in Arlington, TX

Enter Invisalign. Invisalign consists of custom made clear aligner trays that are virtually invisible to the naked eye. Unlike traditional metallic braces, the trays are removable for up to two hours each day, to allow for eating and regular brushing and flossing. Arlington, TX based dentist Dr. Joseph Reed offers both traditional braces as well as Invisalign for patients who would like to improve the appearance of their smile, without the social embarrassment that sometimes comes along with traditional orthodontics.

How Invisalign Works

The system is incredibly user-friendly and straight forward. After a comprehensive dental exam with Dr. Reed at Arlington Dental, a series of Invisalign trays are designed specifically for each patient. Each tray is worn for 22 hours a day for a period of roughly two weeks, after which it is replaced by the next tray in the series as the teeth gradually begin to shift and align into the desired position. Most healthy adults and older adolescents who can commit to wearing the trays for the required 22 hours each day and keep follow-up appointments are typically good candidates for Invisalign.
